Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear?
A reflexology treatment takes place with the client fully clothed. Loose clothing is suitable so the client can lay back and relax in the reclining reflexology chair. Shoes and socks are removed and trousers rolled up to calf level.
Is it common to experience emotions during the treatment?
It depends, you might be having a day filled with emotions whether that be sadness , joy or exhaustion. Sometimes touch, like music, can bring your feelings to the surface and emotions may be released. Please do not be alarmed, this is quite normal and I would simply ask if you feel okay to continue, and monitor how you are doing and adjust the treatment accordingly.
Is it okay to talk during the treatment?
Yes it is fine to talk, but you may get more benefits from a relaxing treatment if you let go of your everyday worries and concerns. If you are nervous about the process and feel the need to engage in conversation I will understand. Keep in mind that all therapists are trained not to talk themselves during the treatment, but I will simply answer your questions, and will stay in constant contact with you regarding my pressure levels and measuring relief, adjusting the pressure if required.
How often should you have a reflexology treatment?
Results from reflexology are often accumulative. You are more likely to see greater benefits from regular sessions (for example, once a week for six weeks) than if you had a couple of sessions in a six month period. I liken it to going to the gym. You will see required results from regular sessions more than if you go once a month.
How long does a session last?
A session will last 60 minutes. The first session will include a free consultation which lasts 15-20 minutes where medical history is taken and any medication you may be currently taking.
What does a treatment feel like? Does it hurt?
Everyone's personal experience is different. Some people experience tingling in areas of the body, some people may speak more, some may feel elated as the energy starts to flow. Most clients enter into a deep state of relaxation. Areas of congestion may be uncomfortable but should not be painful. I constantly check that you are comfortable and adapt the pressure I apply to suit you.
My feet are very ticklish. Will I be able to tolerate reflexology?
The pressure I use with my fingers will be firm and precise on your feet so it should not feel ticklish.
How will I feel after the treatment?
Many clients feel a wonderful sense of well being after the treatment. Reflexology may help the body eliminate waste and toxins so it is important to stay hydrated post treatment. Many clients experience a reaction such as increased bowel movements, increased urination or perspiration or a runny nose etc. I believe this to be a sign that the treatment is working well and is known as a ‘healing reaction’.
The body will take the benefits of the treatment where it needs to go at that particular time. If the body's systems needs revving up that's where the benefits of the treatment will be felt and the client will feel energised and invigorated. If the body's systems need to relax and slow down then that's where the body will take the benefits of the treatment and the client may feel very relaxed.
After a treatment it is good to have some quiet time. Relax and sleep if needed. Try not to take on anything too energetic allowing the treatment to work its way through the body systems.
Are there any possible side effects to the treatment?
There are no side effects to reflexology as such but occasionally there can be what known as a ' healing crisis' after the treatment which means pre- existing symptoms can temporarily worsen while the body tries to re balance the systems.
How much does it cost and how do I book an appointment?
1 treatment- 1 hour - £35 - within the areas of Sevenoaks, Halstead, Orpington, Bromley, Kent.
Please contact me for further information regarding locations outside of these areas.
The first treatment will include a free consultation that lasts 15-20 minutes to determine your individual requirements.
Block bookings 6 treatments for 5.
Some clients like to share this arrangement with a friend. Treatments would need to be taken together in the same location if possible and be taken within 6 months of the first treatment.
I can be contacted by telephone or email at the top of the homepage.
I will respond as soon as possible.
What is your cancellation policy?
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Failure to cancel within that time frame will incur the full treatment fee.
I will contact you via text or email 24 hours before the appointment is due as a reminder.
How many treatments will I need?
It is not realistic to expect that problems that have been present and developing over many months or years can be solved with one treatment. Everyone is individual and some people respond to reflexology more quickly than others. Most people notice a difference after 3-4 sessions.
Guidance on treatments
After receiving one treatment you will feel the benefit of that treatment.
However, when clients block book treatments, the body is enabled to have a continuous flow of holistic attention. This will help to break down and ease stress, anxiety and tension or any dis-ease that you may be experiencing within the body.
When the block booked sessions are complete, then it would be what we call 'maintenance treatments', at least once a fortnight or once a month depending on your finances and time frame. This is advised to help keep the body in optimum health.
REMEMBER REFLEXOLOGISTS DO NOT DIAGNOSE.
If you have been diagnosed with or suspect you may have a pre-existing medical condition you should consult your GP for advice, diagnosis and treatment. If you are under the care of your GP always consult him/her before starting any alternative or additional therapies, treatments or making any major changes in your diet and health programme.
