What can you expect from a reflexology treatment?
The client will be seated in a reclining chair after shoes and socks have been removed. The feet will be cleaned and a consultation will take place taking down personal details, medical history and current medication noted, to check there are no contraindications that may need to be taken into account before the treatment begins. This initial consultation normally takes 15-20 minutes. The feet will then be assessed for any corns, blisters, areas of swelling/puffiness etc and then the treatment can begin. Subsequent treatments will have a shorter consultation to check how the client responded to the previous treatment.
I will then use my fingers to apply moderate pressure to specific points starting with the toes and will work down the foot feeling for congestion and releasing energy within the nerve pathways. One foot will be worked on at a time.
Everyone will vary with their reflexology experience, even clients will feel different on session one than on session two or three. The experiences with reflexology sessions vary from a general sense of relaxation and rest to a conscious awareness internally of the area of the body where the therapist is working through. Many people will experience a “lightness” or tingling in the body, as well as feelings of warmth, a sense of “opening” or “energy moving” from the therapist's pressure being applied to the specific body area or organ.
I always check in with the client 24 hours after the treatment with a courtesy email or text.
Always hydrate pre and post treatments. Pre- treatment helps your body have the energy to take on the treatment. Post treatment helps to ground you and flush toxins from the body, helps to prevent headaches and will give your energy levels a boost.
